Greetings. This is my first post on this site. In the mid 1970's I purchased two Sonor Rosewood kits while growing up in New Hampshire. I still have both and am in the process of restoring one of them, having completed the other restoration earlier in the year. This kit is now my primary live kit. I have not seen the exact drum badge on the Drum Expert website. It is a one-piece badge similar to the 60's badge, but under the logo it says "Made in Germany". They have staggered lugs and other than the normal pitting on the chrome, the drums are in excellent shape. I put them into semi-retirement about 10 years ago when I purchased my DW's and now I am returning to my roots. I have not run into shells that sound this warm yet have such crisp attack. They sound unbelievable and you really have to look for the seam in the veneer and on a few of them you can't find the seam. I have no idea how rare they are or what they could be worth. I am researching the kits and thought I would try to get as much insight as I could from this forum. I appreciate any wisdom that could be shared. Thanks, Michael

Are the inner plies of the drums rosewood or beech? Are the lugs squared off (kind of look like Ludwigs) or pointy on the ends? What sizes?

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16

I have a 1970 kit with teardrop lugs. Same badge as you are describing. 6 ply beech with rosewood on the outside. 20,13,16. I paid about $1350 about 2 years ago.

i got one of those kits at the store i work at..they have the 100th year anniversary badges..

the floor tom sounds AMAZING...its like a cannon. i just want the floor tom and nothing else..

Thanks for your reply. The inner shell is beech and the lugs are the teardrop kind, off-set.

It seems like sonor rosewoods have a high resale value,whether 60's 70's 80's,phonic plus sigs,whatever series,with jazz and esp bop kits getting very good money.I guess it is an iconic finish,vertical ply rosewood immediately makes me think sonor.
