Why with a black Sharpie of course! Cool Supra!
Vintage Supraphonic good buy? Last viewed: 19 hours ago
I'll be posting a few pics soon. I have used the aluminum foil method with some vinegar and baking soda and it's worked really well.
I'm really lucky with this Supra, because their is NO pitting at all in the shell. The hoops have come up like brand new, and the shell looks like a mirror, with only a couple of spots that the chrome has flaked off. Just working on the lugs now and should have her back together this week.
By the way, I soaked the P83 strainer in a mixture of baking soda with a little vinegar too and it too looks brand new.
This is going to be one amazing looking vintage Supra!
Cheers, Phil

Never used it with vinegar or baking soda but my dad, being an old car guy, showed me that a ball of aluminum foil dipped in water works wonders on neglected chrome. The aluminum foil being much softer than the chrome plating cleans it up without scratching.
Well, after a LONG layoff from anything drums, I finally got around to finishing off the '67 Supra.
For $140 I think I got a terrific drum, with very little, if any pitting, and only a couple of small areas where the chrome has chipped off. Put the snares on today, and it sounds fabulous!
Sorry about neglecting a couple of posts above, but the method I used was to soak the tension rods and hoops in a mixture of white vinegar with some baking soda added (bubbles up real nice!) and leave overnight. I tried the crumpled up aluminum foil, and had some success, but I found an old toothbrush worked a lot better. The shell was stripped and soaked overnight in my laundry tub with a good amount of palmolive dish detergent.
Then, after a good drying, I used Mothers chrome polish on all the chrome.
If i had spent a bit more time, I'm sure I could have got the drum even nicer, but I think overall it looks great, and can't wait to rehearse with it next week.
Here's some pics.
Cheers

O YEAH! You got your money's worth on that one.Looks like the time you put in it paid off.
Wow! You really got a nice, shiny appearance after your cleaning. Have fun with it. I set my 71 Supra up with my 2011 Classic Maples. Those old Supras really sound nice, so I'm sure yours is going to sound great when you give it a good teat drive. Congratulations!
