Vintage Tension Rod? - What brand? Last viewed: 1 day ago

Loading...

I received a lot of tension rods. In them there were a number of Vintage Ludwig and Sonor rods. But one particular set eludes me. Many of the rods, whether they are Rogers, or Ludwig, etc, have a dimple at the base if the head. This particular one does not. It is flat on all four sides from top to bottom.

I have scoured ebay and a few other places, but can't seem to get a bead on where these may have come from.

Anyone?

Are the threads standard or metric? Either way, these could be MIJ.

Those look like the older Rogers rods I have on a couple of snares. Not 100% positive, but I know older Rogers (pre Fullerton) are pretty squared off compared to others.

Thanks Adam.

I have run into quite a few of these lately so I was just curious.

The treads are standard.

Someone mentioned the possibility of early Rogers tension rods - What year would we be talking? I have quite a few Rogers drums that are in the Swivo era and they were not flat.

Any more possibilities? I am confused now, so I might as well be completely confused. :)

That rod is a perfect match to the ones on my mid-'50s Slingerlands. I've got one in my hand right now, comparing it to the pics on screen.

So, perhaps these flat headed rods were used by one or more drum companies in the 50s?

Didnt Slinys always have the shorter height rods? Im no expert, but in my experience Slingerland rods are shorter than the others. That looks longer to me.

Slingerland rods came in different lengths. My 5.5" x 14" snare drum's rods are 2" overall, including the head. The ones from my 13" and 16" toms are 2 5/16" overall. Length aside, the rod pictured is a perfect match for my 1950s Slingerland rods.

I don't have any old Rogers drums handy, so can't tell you whether or not their rods are similar.

I will dig through the rods and see if they match up to those lengths and see if these all fit into one of those categories.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
