Hi there - i stumbled upon the vistalite kit in the pic hereunder. I just noticed the sliding tom holder on the top of the bass drum. I have never seen this on a vistalite kit before. Was that a variant of the original kits or an add on later?

Regards

Erik

Absolutely! It also looks as if there is a cymbal arm attachment or something attached to the shell the the left of the slider.

I have a 70's Ludwig Maple bass drum with the same mounting hardware for the tom. From what I understand it was an option you had for your drums. So I'd say this could be original.

Found a few Vistalite photos with rail mounts from the 70's.

Thank you very much for that info! Would you say that it would add to or reduce the value of the kit from a desirability point of view. I already have a vista kit but the price on this one is not bad and it comes with some nice Paiste 2002 cymbals so as a package it is not a bad deal.

Depends on the buyer honestly. While Vistalites with a rail mount are more uncommon, a lot of guys might not prefer it. From the photo you posted the drums look to be in great shape. So I would think expect typical value, and depending on buyer you might find a guy whose been seeking this kit, or someone who will toss the tom on a snare stand.

If you buy the drum set please unstuff the bass drum. Let the poor thing breath.

Earlier Vistalites did have the rail consolette mount and then later had the diamond plate mount..These were always optional, but for the most part it was the diamond plate, for the simple reason that it was much more solid..However, Bonham's vista had the rail consolette and he beat the crap out of his drums, yet it somehow worked. This means that even though he was a heavy hitter, he knew how to hit the drums to achieve a loud boom without destroying the hardware required to hold it..

I have personally never seen a rail mount in the middle of a vistalite bass drum, but there's plenty of non typical aspects regarding Ludwig drums from the past.. This looks to be unevenly installed and probably non original.

The first pic I posted does have the rail in the center ( blue one ) And I dunno, that camera angle is weird. It looks properly aligned, but I can't fully tell. If we could see a close up of the installation that would help. But I know that may not be a possibility.

is the bass drum a match for the toms? It doesn't seem to be transparent in that photo
