Vistalite Supraphonic? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Has anyone ever heard of a 10-lug vistalite snare drum being described as a Supraphonic?

no, not exactly...they did make a Supersensitve type Vistalite. Maybe someone's refering to a Vistalite snare with the regular (P85) throwoff mechanism.

My 6.5x14" blue Vista snare has 10 bowtie lugs, like you'd see on an Acrolite, and a regular throwoff.

Metal Supraphonics have Imperial lugs.

I've never heard of an "alleged" vistalite supraphonic either, yet there's a drum listed as such in the local area. From the looks of it it's simply a 10-lug clear vistalite with the blue & olive badge. I'm not sure which strainer is on the drum but more than likely it's a P-85. Nothing special unless I'm missing something here.

I think the same drum is on ebay as well. I saw one with the same description yesterday.

I believe in the book "LUDWIG YESTERDAY & TODAY" by Paolo Sburlatti, he mentions Ludwig Vistalite Supraphonic multiple times. I do not have the book anymore...

In the Ludwig '75 Catalog the Vistalite Snares are referred to as Supra-Phonics. Page 24 on the Supra-Phonic page if you have the catalog.

Callin' that drum a Supra is a bit of a stretch. It may have 10 lugs, but a Supra isn't a Supra without the COB or Ludalloy shell, & maybe some Imps as well. I guess they can call it whatever they want, tho'....marko

that's what I was saying in my above post. I think they just wanted to designate that it WASN'T a Super Sensitive. Imperial lugs would look silly on a Vistalite snare becuase there isn't a bead on the shell like real Supras.

Well, yes. That may be what they were trying to do.

Regarding lugs, I was thinking of Imperials without the notch for the bead, like they used to use on old wood-shelled drums. You stated in your original post that yours had bowtie lugs like from an acrolite. THAT would look silly because they DO have the notch; I THINK you were referring to the bowties that DO NOT have the notch like on a Jazz Festival.

Whatever the case, I think your set-up, regardless of its name, would look the best with a set of matching Vistalites; Have you got a picture of your set?....marko
