VM2K/Slingerland Dudes! Radio King Help Please! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hello!

I am going to pick up these two Radio King toms from a friend of mine. I have a couple of questions.

A: Year? Id say early 40s no?

B: Is this faded gold or faded silver sparkle?

C: Anyone got a faded/beat up 24 or 26 inch cloud badge bass drum to match these puppies? The more thrashed the better (within reason). Im looking to keep these in "rough" shape (as they are) to use as a gigging set with character galore.

Thanks for the help!

My guess is around 1947. By 1948, different lugs were used. Also, 1947 was when floor tom legs first began to appear. Of course, legs could have been put on later but '47 is probably pretty close. That finish is gold sparkle. Good luck with the project!

I'd say it could be faded gold or "ginger ale" silver sparkle. If it's possible ,take one lug off or the heads, and have a look underneath.Be careful,as those early lugs weren't made very well, and you could crack it.So if the mounting screw or tension rod is very tight.....leave it alone.

Carefully...use some WD-40 to penetrate the lug insert.

Aquarian American vintage heads sound pretty good on old RK's and most fit the shell without binding.

On second look, that may be silver that faded. Lug removal will tell the story better.

I don't have the drums in my possession as of yet, but I'd imagine removing a head or lug would tell the story. Just curious if anyone could tell by looking at my pics. I'll update when I get the drums!
