Vntage Slingerland Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I have a 9x13 Slingerland tom. It has 6 lugs on top/bottom. It appears to be mahogany. My questions: there are (3) holes near the top that appear to be for the muffler. These holes are horizontal, not vertical (like most 2 hole mufflers). Inside is stamped P-040, nothing else. No badge, no vent hole. does this muffler have (2) felt "rounds", or one? like most other later Slingerlands I've seen. Also, does anyone suppose this may be from the 50s as opposed to the 60s, as I always assumed. Does anyone know what year they started using the horizontal muffler (bracket), and what year they went to the vertical (bracket). Thanks so much for any insight...

Blessings!

Hi Guys, sorry. Thanks for the responses. I am enclosing 3 pics. the first one shows the (3) horizontal holes where the bracket goes. Any help would be great-did this drum have the double felt mufflers or single?

Mahogany interior, narrow re-rings (1-3/8") and wrap seam (overlapped) date this shell to '56-mid '63. Accoording to Dr CJ Wenk 2-pad tone controls were used to the end of '61 and use horizontal mounting holes. Also p-0x0 style shell stamps were used from late '60 and earlier. That narrows your shell down to '56-'60. The fasteners could help narrow the date further except yours are slotted hex head which were not used until '63. Those are probably not original to that shell.
