I have a chance to buy this three piece kit for $899. I have spent a good portion of the day researching these drums. It seems they were well made and the people who own them love them. One thing I could not find was any idea of value. Does anyone have an idea if this is a good deal, ok deal or stinker of a deal? The kit comes with the three drums and a hi hat stand. The pic is kind of blurry and I am waiting for some more to come to me.

Thanks,

Beautifully made drums! This is most likely from the "Perfection Series". Most likely made in Worcester, MA. Shells are 6-ply Gretsch-spec Jasper shells with clear maple interiors. Most of the kits were built with Gretsch lugs, but it's also common to find Rogers lugs, too. $899 is a good deal for a kit with fantastic Jasper shells!

Attached are some pictures of an identical kit that was for sale on eBay quite some years ago. Don't remember what they sold for. However, a different W&A kit (picture attached), in red sparkle, sold for over $1000.

Find out more about the kit, including what the badges say. Hoping the badge will say where they are made, along with "Perfection". Don't be afraid to make an offer. Still, the asking price isn't out of line.

Almost forgot, the kit you're considering should be 22x14, 13x9 and 14x16, just like the pictures I posted.

Just got a pic of the badge and it does say "perfection." I have gotten down to $850. My only concern is that I will try to sell this kit in a few years and not find a buyer.

Are you planning to do that? To me that looks like a super nice kit and sweet wrap I've never see before. Snare included too? I say only buy if you intend to keep and play. Unless you can get the seller down some more on price.

No snare. I always plan to keep, but invariably sell after a few years so I have to be realistic.

Grab em! W&A is one of the most -undervalued- drums ever. Even more than Slingerland, which makes great drums, but never get the monetary respect they deserve in the marketplace. Email, or contact Jeremy, the current owner of W&A (if not through VDF, through FaceBook,) and he'll give you an educated estimate of value.

W&A are among the best made drums I have ever seen and I have seen them all. They are wonderful sounding instruments that can be tuned nine-ways from Sunday and sound absolutely killer high, or low.

Buy, buy, buy! You won't need anything else after you get those.

Best of luck,

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I'd buy them for $850! First, though, ask yourself why you want them. If it's just to turn around and sell them in a few years, then maybe they're not for you. If, on the other hand, you'd like to own a piece of drumming history and not too concerned that they will, or will not, sell some years from now, then I'd buy them. I've got quite a few vintage kits that I like, make me happy, and I'm not concerned that I'll lose money on them when/if I sell them. I've no doubt there are other VDF members in the same boat!

One thing to note if you can't see them in person before purchasing - the whites in all the pics you have posted are very pure with little to no blue or orange cast. That means the wrap colour is reasonably accurately shown. They seem a bit more faded than the ones Mark posted.

Now just personally, the fade is a plus, the mix of hardware from the factory is really cool...I want them. I guess resale value would depend largely on condition...
