i need a set of wooden hoops for a 17" tenor tom. this is a 48-52 wfl drum that i'm using as a bass drum. but at this point, i'll take two 17" wooden hoops off of anything as long as they are in round. please pm me or email me at [email protected] if you have any or have any leads. ive got a complete drum that can't be used simply because of two hoops. been looking for quite some time. could really use some help on these. thanks as always...

That's a tough order to fill, Mike. Those 17" wood hoops are rare. Easier to find 15, 16, or 18. I'll keep my peepers open for you.

No guilt tearing that one down for parts! Grab the hoops, spurs, cymbal mount and claws!

Hey Mike, we have a pretty good sized Amish community in the area where Purdie and myself hail from. There are still guys that make buggy wheels from scratch and could given the dimensions, most likely do a set of hoops in a week. (guesstimating here) I've had leather work/repairs done and the quality and price are always great.

Any Amish in your area?

I'd almost bet this drum is actually 16" in diameter, and the seller just don't know how or what to measure...

Mike, I was in the same boat with the 12x17 I had put in the for sale section just earlier today. I looked for some wooden hoops for several months, and gave up.... but will keep looking for you!

thanks bill. i may be covered if my deal with a forum member here works out on getting me some made. i bought a ludwig 12x17 to steal the hoops off of. when the drum arrived, it was all original including heads. couldnt do that! paid a guy at dfo to make me some months ago. i have all but given up on that bad situation. hoping that this new deal works out.

thanks for your ideas as well mick!

Mike, I was just reading this Jazzette thread started by mbira. Check out the last two sentences in post #8. Maybe he'll make one for you too. Also on pg 3 he has a pic of the kit and hoop he made, looks good!

I have a 17" Slingerland parade drum that has wooden hoops. It appears to be from the 40's or 50's because it has the old super lugs and heavy metal claws. It has a beautiful black diamond pearl finish, but the drum needs some restoration work -- it's missing several lugs, and the hoops were painted silver by someone. I really don't know what to do with the drum, I think it could be converted to a fantastic 17" bass drum. But would that cut the value of the drum as a vintage piece? Any suggestions? Maybe one of you guys would like to work with it.
