Weird Al Yankovic's fathers band - provenance Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Ebay item 231508822528

1957 Gretsch Drumset

This kit has an interesting history; it was played by my grandfather in the Frankie Yankovic polka band - Weird Al's father's band. Billed as "America's Polka King", my grandfather Donald Roberts toured the U.S. with Frankie's band for many years. If you want an authentic vintage jazz drum kit sound, this is what you're looking for.

Snare drum stand is not included, everything else you see is included.

Enjoy!

Wait a sec. Frankie Yankovic is no relation to Weird Al right? So the whole provenance thing is out the window. Bermuda?

Correct - they're not related.

Also, the "early era" Zildjian is a late-70's hollow logo.

Nope - hey sorry if this isn't what it says - I thought it was interesting that's all.

Yep, no relation, and any Al fans that might be enticed by such an item would already know that. But I emailed the seller with a friendly correction, for which I expect a snide response.

Bermuda.....If you're on the newest Weird Al album, congrats. I hear a lot of good things about it. Your band was also the subject of a Jeopardy question (actually a Jeopardy answer) a couple of weeks ago about a recent album being the first comedy album to reach the top ten...or something good like that.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I am, and thanks!

Actually, our last 3 albums were top-10, the latest one debuting at #1. In fact, it's the first comedy album ever to debut in the top spot. :)
