I have a few 12x15 shells in quite good condition although the throws are missing, all the lugs are present. Cant find what type of mahogany they used back then so i wondered if you know?..What depth do you think i should have these cut to?..Im leaning towards 5"

If you're thinking about selling any and got one in black wrap, I am interested.

These are all gold sparkle shells, but surprisingly they still have a nice shine to them.
I cut down a 15x18 shell to make a 12x18 bass drum. In order to save both re-rings & bearing edges, I cut a section out of the middle, & routed opposing 45 degree edges on the 2 pieces; they nested together easily. of course, if you're trying to save the wrap, this won't work (unless you put a stripe around the middle)......marko
According to an expert in England these shells are African mhahogany with a center poplar ply...Going tro sound sweet.
3 ply African Mahogany / Poplar / African Mahogany is what I've always heard as well.
My WFLs all have maple re-rerings and nicely rounded edges.
I think an 8x15 or 7x15 could be fantastic.
