WFL LUDWIG Buddy Rich Super Classic WMP 1948-'52 Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hey guys -

I have a set in excellent condition, no damage other than someone, not me, trying to clean the yellow off of part of the wrap (it's not the worst I've seen). The yellowing isn't too horrendous, I think. I like to think it in terms of removing a 2-piece from a long-ago girlfriend & relishing her tan lines.

Ahhh ...

Back to the set - it's a 4 piece, w/ the snare having an era case that holds hardware as well. There is no hardware except for a rim mount for the rack tom that may be missing a piece. All heads are either original or of the era, minus the batter side for the bass.

I am a collector & seller. I'm hoping to ferret out opinions as to what I can expect for the set.

Thanks for any input - Hobbs

I tried to download photos, but they're too big. How do I make them fit???

Well - here's my ebay post w/ all the photos: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120754908971&ssPageName=STRK:MEUSX:IT#ht_4808wt_1392 -

I resize my photos by opening them with "Paint", then click the "Image" option and use the "Stretch/Skew" drop down.

If you guys don't mind clicking the ebay link ... I've been trying to reduce size without any luck.

Sorry!

If it's too much of a hassle, that's fine.

First, some context:

My '56 red sparkling pearl 13/16/22 kit w/ matching 5.5x14 snare cost me $1200 2 months ago. It was in great condition. It was 98% original, no fade on the wrap, and the part I had to replace only cost me $10. So for $1210, I got a kit that is a 9/10. Steve Maxwell's had a WMP kit around the same age as mine with a deeper snare that he sold for $2400. His WMP was fairly yellowed, but otherwise it was the same condition as my kit. Now, that price, even for Maxwell, seemed way high. I mean, like, INSANELY high.

There was a WFL Red Sparkling Pearl on ebay a couple of months ago that was almost identical to mine, except it came with 2 matching bongos that mounted to a second rail mount. It sold for something like $1600.

So, taking all of that into consideration, I'd say that your starting price is probably really close to what your kit is worth, IMO, maybe a bit more because of the 24" kick and the 6.5" snare. If you want some bids on it, maybe set the staring at $1500 and go from there.

Also - I don't see any bass drum spurs on your kit. Do you have those?

Thank you Ludwig Von Buzz -

I love hearing from other collectors about drum stuff. I'm not on here all that much, but whenever I come back it's great to hear from knowledgeable folks.

I do have spurs, but they're Slingerland I thought I'd sell seperately; also a Slingy cymbal stand, 1 partial Ludwig? cymbal arm. Some way earlier hi hats, 2 pair, came w/ the set {1 is 10" Ludwig; the other very thin 12" Zildjians I'm not certain about ... they may be as early as the 20's, or all the way to the 40's}.

The snare is outstanding, especially w/ the very nice case. The heads are original, as are the strands, all of it.

I know it's more difficult figuring out value with these older kits since Ludwig 60's kits are where its at. I have a 60's BDP that I'm trying to find a bass & snare in supreme condition as the ft is showroom quality. I am always looking out for the best of the best, even if it's not the rare wraps that are impossible to find.

Cheers! Hobbs
