WFL then & now Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Posted this as an introduction on another drum forum I joined. (No reflection on this forum, it's still the best!)

Thought some may get a kick out of it here with the recent discussion on how old vintage drummers are.

1948 - 1952 WFL kit, 14x22, 9x13, 16x16, 5.5x14

Same guy, same drums.

First pic taken in 1967, second pic. today (6/19/2010)

How old IS a vintage drummer? Well, this one just turned 61.

And yes, you are right, the FT is NOT correct. The kit had no FT when I got it in 1964/65, I picked up the Ludwig 16x16 at Manny's in NYC in 1965.

Batterhead - what a great story! To have a photo like that when you back then with those drums is priceless. Way to go keeping them all these years.

I'm 61 in a couple of months myself and I got my first kit just after Christmas 65.

Beautiful drums! Thanks for posting this.

Do you still keep in touch with the guitar player in the photo?

A floor tom that's been with the same kit for 45 years seems correct to me. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you all for your very kind comments!

VM2K: REALLY nice kit! How strange to see my kits' doppelganger. My father bought me those drums as a surprise, so I had no say in the color. But that's just fine cause I really like BDP.

Kona: The guitarist in the photo was Fred, our bassist and lead vocal. He became my longest and closest lifetime friend. Sadly, he suddenly passed away in 2005. I miss him more than I can possibly say.

Again, thanks all! I'll close with the only other known photo of me as a kid behind those drums. Same year, 1967.
