It was indeed very naughty when I think back on it, but I don't feel bad about it for a second. I was offered a kit at a great price and I bought it. I didn't ask questions, but I did feel like I got one over on the man. :)
WFL Vs Ludwig USA Legacy Mahogany Last viewed: 34 seconds ago
Hi, I play a WFL set. Great sounding drums! I understand that Ludwig has reissued the 3 ply mahogany / poplar / mahogany, 50's era shells. These are expensive drums. You can buy WFL drums for a lot less, so I guess my question is why are the Legacy Mahogany outfits so expensive and why are people buying them when they can get the original 50's shells for less?Thank You.
I think the OP is referring to the Ludwigs at this link. The kit in the video is the maple/poplar/maple formula as opposed to the mahogany/poplar/mahogany layup that him and BEC were referring to. [ame]http://www.ludwig-drums.com/pdf/AV2LU501_Ludwig_NewFor2015.pdf[/ame]
I bought a New Ludwig Legacy Classic when they came out several years ago when they first came out.I have around 15 vintage Ludwig sets also.I do play the vintage sets sparingly on special gigs or occasions.I use the new drms most of the time mainly because I don't trust myself loading out at 1AM!I also sometimes leave the drums in the car for several weeks if we are playing several weekends in a row.Something I know is not good on them ,but much worse on the vintage wraps. The Legacy Classic has nice vintage sound and it can take a beating I would NEVER give to my vintage sets.I don't beat them mercilessly but do have accidents periodically. The worst beig a week after I bought them and dropped the BD off a 5 ' stage on it's edge.Cracked the hoop a shell and re-ring.Sent it to Chris Heuer in California and he turned an 18" deep BD into a 14" BD,which I like better anyway.Guess that' s enough rambling.Just don't want to have a major(or minor)accident with one of my vintage babies.
Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.
