Just found this Slingerland lacquered brass snare on eBay.
What do you Slingerland experts make of this? The serial number and muffler knob date this squarely to 1968. I'm aware of some lacquered brass shells, but not this late into the 60's. Possibly a shell that sat for sometime and then a badge finally installed in 1968? Even the hoops are brass!

not sure about the history of this drum, but saw this same snare sell on ebay a a couple weeks ago for around $575, different seller, but same pictures...

I think this is a better deal. Ron
1) I've never seen a lacquered brass Slingerland shell with a gray interior.
2) I've never seen lacquered brass rims on a Slingerland drum from this era.
I don't think this is a factory order drum.

Yes, this is a better deal! Normally, I find everything this seller lists to be way overpriced. However, this drum seems fairly priced. Again, it's a real odd piece to be offered this late in the 60's.

The interior has the typical gray paint, so I don't see an issue here.
I've never seen lacquered brass rims during this time period, either.
The air vent grommet appears original and not tampered with. Still I'm just not convinced of the originality of this drum.
I believe this may be a totally stripped drum. I don't see any evidence that Slingerland offered a Natural Brass shell , or hoops, at this time, & when they did offer one, c, 1979 they had Brass interiors, & chrome hoops. There's a reason hoops are Chromed,..they hold up under the pounding of sticks. A lacquered brass hoop would soon lose it's lacquer, & turn brown & green where it was struck along the top. If one had a hands on inspection, it would be easy to spot an aftermarket lacquer job. The brass hoops are a giveaway that this was someone's project.
