What Drum is THIS?? Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Hi all

First post... just joined today! I've been researching the web trying to figure out what I have here. Attached pics.

5 lugs offset, 14"x14" size, bass drum style wood hoops both ends (I removed bottom head to photograph inside), very long rods for the size of the drum with ludwig style claws. Looks like Tama Swingstar lugs, but could have replaced something else at some point. Only writing anywhere is inside handwritten "R. DeGuire" on two different locations. Missing the badge but the general shape might be a 60's-70's Star black badge. Thinking its an old japanese drum but then type of wood doesnt make sense. I think its maple. The head is an old Remo Sound Master Field Drum. Dont think this is a cheap POS since it has reinforced shell inside hoops.

What do you guys think?

Claws are defo MIJ, shell no way - grain is horizontal, they almost never did that...maybe never at all...?

It's pretty neat looking anyway. What are your plans?

And welcome to the forum [tho I feel presumptuous being the one to do it]

thanks for the reply! i plan on fixing her up without going crazy. Still would like to know what the heck it is. Dont even know if I should tune it like a snare drum, a tom or a bass drum. the head is probably crap now, but in my room is makes a pretty sizeable sub tone frequency.

I believe it is mahogany.

And a marching snare. Thus the snare bed in the pic.

but the snare bed is on the opposite end of where presumably the mounting holes for the strainer are. I'll have to take off the top head and check if at some point someone flipped this drum around.
