No clue on the age... Nickel stuff is normally plated over steel, or castings. If the shell doesn't attract a magnet, it's probably brass.

U.S.N. could be 'Uncle Sherman Nosedrip', but I'm thinking it means United States Navy. :)

It's a pleasure to meet you, welcome to the clubhouse...

Thanks guys. From looking at the badge and the badge forums here it appears 30's. The thing really rocks. Just as good as or better than my 402 Supra. It does appear that it was used in the Navy - wish I knew more about it - may sell it - not sure...depends on what I find out. It would be nice if someone loved it enough to restore it........we'll see. Love this web site.....

From the badge I'm guessing 1948-1952. The type of corrosion on the shell looks more like what you see on nickel plated brass than chromed aluminum. Too bad the hoops are so rusty, but cleaned up it could be a killer snare!

They only used that badge for 6 mths..if I understand right...

Didn't Mr.Ludwig get in trouble over it,as it has "Ludwig" on it...not just WFL?

I wanna say 1937-38.....

Oh, you're right! I didn't see the Ludwig around the grommet. I withdraw my age statement.

I wonder if that is a snare drum that served time on CV66 which was the aircraft carrier "america"?

That would explain the corrosion.
