What is Your Favorite Year for Music? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

This may only apply to those who followed AM/FM Top 40 radio in the 1950-early 80s, but...anyway.

My favorite is 1975. Though I'm a Beatles fanatic, I loved '75 for the variety in really good music. I jump around to years on several online radio stations, and from my own personal memory and how music has held up I just like this year the most. Today I've heard Top 40 songs from this year incl the following:

Leon Russell

Janis Ian

Phoebe Snow

Wings

Elton John

10CC

Al Green

War

A nice mix there.

Any other opinions? Stay warm.

Have to agree with vintagemore 2000. I enjoy most music (not so much rap) but, the mid-sixties to mid-seventies, for me, was great!

I can`t narrow it down to just one particular year so i`d have to say the 60`s was my favourite time for music. There was just so much happening in that decade and most all of it was good.

I'm kind'a with VM2000 but I narrow it down a little. Late 1930s through early 1970s. Not that there hasn't been some good stuff since the 70's but not what I would call "favorites".

Growing up in the golden age of top 40 radio and being exposed to music through a musical family, I keep going back to 1964. I pondered this post for a few days now and it's hard to nail down one year, but if forced to, 64 would have to be it. Why?

Well, The Beatles. What more can be said? April 1964 Billboard chart has the top 5 spots taken with Beatles plus many other spots further down the chart. Does that boggle your brain????

The Four Seasons are about to peak with Rag Doll, Dawn, and others.

Roy Orbison's Oh, Pretty Woman is a drummer's delight.

The Dave Clark 5 are just getting up steam, The Kinks roll out You Really Got Me.

The Stones are just getting fired up; The Supremes debut, Motown is bursting at the seams, AND THE BEACH BOYS....originally American as jazz and apple pie. An American institution.

Yet, you can also hear Streisand-THEE voice of forever, sing People, Satchmo sings What a Wonderful World, Dean Martin croons Everybody Loves Somebody, you can even hear the trumpet great Al Hirt do Cotton Candy. And how many great songs not mentioned.....The pop music genre had such a wonderful rich and varied texture that made a trip to the record shop and truly great adventure.

So guys, if you step back and make an analysis, it's hard to argue 1964 wasn't simply MIND BLOWING. Oh yeah, let's not forget Surfin Bird by the Trashmen....dean Keep on Pl

I think 1960. The British had not yet arrived, and we had James Brown and Ray Charles and Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck and Ahmad Jamal and of course the rock'n rollers.

Very well said and agreed on each point you mentioned.I`ve still got those old "Billboard Charts" from the mid 60`s but what you mentioned here really did take me for a ride down memory lane...thanks.
