Hey everyone,
I recently got my hands on this Rogers snare. Could you guys help me identify what model this is so I can buy tension rods for it (one of them is missing, and the others are rusty).
The serial number says "D 739605".
Thanks alot!
Dyna-sonic...but I don't see any lines? Hmmmmm
That is a Fullerton Big R era Superten 5x14, COS shell, yes, STEEL Shell. ....... a really good drum.
With that serial, aprox. 1978.
hmm... which one of you is right then?
also, how can I take the rust off the shell without damaging it?
Listen to the Ploughman,he's a Rogers nut....Mikey
What rust?
I am right.
Heres a drum like yours.
First year Rogers Superten, Big R Era, 1975/76

yep thats the one.
there is rust , its just not very visable in the picture. there are small dots of rust scatterd all over the shell and on the rims.
By the way, is it safe to clean it with steel wool?
No matter what anyone tries to convince you of otherwise,.......
Cleaning any vintage snare drum using steel wool is the worst thing you could do, other than polishing it with a belt sander. Give it a good disassembly, clean with a good chrome product that is non abraisive, and use only cotton cloth. Key word here is NON ABRAISIVE.
I see.. good to know.
are the rims of this snare from chrome?
Booggiemann!...
Have a look/read at this... it's a little piece I wrote a while ago about the Rogers SuperTen snare drum. I have a 1973, first production w/oval SuperTen badge, but the drums are exactly the same with regard to build/make-up save the difference in badges. Enjoy!! http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?p=6749#post6749
Hey Ploughman!... always a pleasure!!
