I have only vintage drums and know very little about who makes good sets now days. So I wanted to get some opinions on what brands/lines of modern sets do other people on the forum play. I guess I was looking for something ideas for good rock sets since my current sets over the jazz sound.

I too, collect vintage snare drums but I only play modern day drums.
I like/play Craviotto, D'Amico, Dunnett, WorldMax etc. snare drums....I like/play Yamaha and DW drumsets.

some exotic kit from Europe or Brazil that no one has heard of........
If I were in the market now for new drums, I'd probably buy Yamaha. Maybe Sonor or Tama, too. I'd also look at Gretsch and DW, but I would mount them on Yamaha hardware.

Lots of great drums out there right now, but the best bang-for-the-buck is Ludwig, and in the "modern" vein, you have the ever-popular Classic Maple and the new-ish Keystone series. The Keystone series is just killer. I reviewed these last year for MD and had a ball playing them.
The DW Performance series is slammin' as well. Both kits are built in the USA. That's not why I mentioned them, but they are two that stick out furthest in my mind.
Of all the non-vintage kits I've ever owned, I've really liked the Yamaha Recording Custom and Rock Tour Custom kits, and the Gretsch Catalina Birch kits. I've owned a really cool DW snare that impressed the heck out of me. But, for my dough, the Pearl Masters Mahogany Classic Limited Edition kit is the cats meow. It is 100% African Mahogany (maple rerings) laid up into a thin shell and it plays unbelievably sweeeeet. It is the warmest new kit I've ever owned. I sometimes miss it.
Ain't never gettin rid of my Yamaha Maple Customs
Haven't played too many moderns kits honesty, and they all sounded decent but nothing stuck out.
I have a SJC Custom snare drum that is honestly one of my favorite snares. And it's in pink sparkle so it just looks classy as hell. Also my buddy has a full SJC set and although I didn't play it... It has the thinnest shells I have ever seen so I assume it sounds fantastic.
