Just thought this thread might be interesting and fun.. If you had won a contest to choose any brand new, customized to your specs, drum kit from any company, what kit would that be ? Has to be a modern kit , but vintage specs on modern kits are ok too..

You have 2 choices..

Here are my specs :

Ludwig Legacy Mahogany in a custom Bowling Ball Blue oyster Pearl (like their 70's wrap) with same sizes, with Atlas cymbal arm mount on kick..

C&C 12th and Vine drum kit in a Green Sparkle finish, with L-arm cymbal mount on kick

Sizes -- 22x14 -16x16- 13x9

C&C no question. The Cardwells have a great love for the history and sounds of vintage drums and the drums respect that.

I'd play modern ludwigs, gretsch, or premiers. All three are originators that still survive today. Now if I had fame and some money, I'd buy the slingerland name and try to return it to glory. Or even the rogers name.

Ludwig's would be my first choice due to the factory is here in my home state and I've been to the factory many time, and know the plant manager. Also due to the fact I love ludwig drums. 2nd choice Paiste spirit 2002 in bonham sizes, 3rd choice would be the new Sonor vintage series. My 4th choice would be Bernie Stone custom drums.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Sonor....period. It's what I play live and in the studio. I already had one of the new vintage series also.

Hard to call... Could go C&C, Ludwig Legacy... But I think I'd have to go with Craviotto.

13x9, 16x16, 18x16, 22x14 and 26x14. Maybe 14x5 and 14x8 matching snares... All natural satin finish. Yeah, that'd be nice...

1 up, 2 down configuration, Craviotto kit in Shoreline Gold 20/16/14/12 or C&C kit in a dark green/gold duco finish 20/16/14/12

'67 Rogers Holiday Champagne sparkle 20/16/12
'65 Rogers Powertone COB 5x14 snare
'68 Ludwig Acrolite snare 5x14
Bosphorus Hammer, Antique, and New Orleans series cymbals
Paiste Formula 602 cymbals

2015 Gretsch Brooklyn 18/14/12 (not vintage but I love it nonetheless)

This response must include a disclaimer - not very schooled/experienced on modern drums.

That being said, my personal answer, due to my own experience, is that I would choose a ddrum Reflex. I know that might sound bizarre - but if you have ever heard one of those - you would understand. The tone of Alder wood is just extremely warm to my heart - as it seems that it is the tone I always am going for when I tune any of my kits....and throw those studio rings on there. Someday I will have one of those Reflex kits and will indeed run it without any muffling at all.

Next time you see one in person - hit it and you will understand.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Ayotte Custom from Canada.

Thin six ply shells with reinforcing rings. A very vintage sound. Absolutely top notch construction. With wood or steel hoops. One up, two down, old school sizes. Ayotte mounts. Virgin Bass. 20-12-14ft-16ft. Ayotte Custom snare...... a couple of them.
