Just WHAT Rogers catalog are you looking at here? LOL! I have two of them.. ( including the coveted 1967 with Buddy Rich and Louis Bellson on the rear cover ) .. and Rogers plainly calls it the #4009 Sta-Tite, which happens to be a "MEDIUM WEIGHT VERSION OF OUR GIANT MODEL". Have a gander at your own post where you are showing a page from an actual Rogers catalog featuring their line up of snare drum stands: The GIANT is #4012, and the STA-TITE is #4009, but nowhere is it actually CALLED or LISTED as the "medium weight"... it's the Sta-Tite! LOL! But you know what?... this horse is now beat to death.. ( although it was fun! ) .. so let me answer your other query:
The bracket on the #4009 Sta-Tite.. ( there it is again! ) .. ahem.. and the #4012 Giant, are both THREADED, no nut on the wing-screw. That was OEM for both those stands.. however .. what a lot of guys do.. ( myself included as I use this hardware professionally ) .. is ADD a locking nut to the threaded wing-screw as it does add some redundancy and gives the adjustment no chance to slip while you're playing, and slip they can and do! What ultimately happens over time is that you end up stripping the wing-screw because as it starts to slip, one of course tightens it a bit more... and a bit more... and a bit, well you get the idea. Eventually it strips out, and ALWAYS when you're on the gig! LOL! Adding the nut stops that cold and retains the integrity of the Rogers wing-screw.
