what should a COB supra sound like? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I have a 60's pre serial COB supraphonic 5x14 drum that I got for a steal at a goodwill a couple years ago. I understand the uniqueness of the drum but im not sure if I like its sound unless tuned really low. The drum is in round and has no visible flaws, yet it just seems very dry. Is this a normal characteristic of this drum? I playes a 67 supraphonic yesterday that was super lively, very ringy and open. Is that the difference between the two? No other brass drum ive had was so dry, but no other was COB either. Thanks for any light that you may shed on this!!!

Brian

PS. Head combo is Coated Ambassador top and Ambassador Snare Side on bottom.

Hi Brian. Here's one of my videos on this subject. Listen carefully at 0:28 for the change between alloy and brass.
