What should I offer? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi Folks,

These Slingys are for sale at best offer(I hate when people do this-I prefer a straight up price rather than possibly insulting someone with a poor offer) Virgin BD's and a whopping 20" FT which I've never heard of. The sizes are 13/14/15/16FT/20FT and 2x 24BD's. Any idea of the year( sorry no serial available but definately 70's IMO) I checked the catalogues and it seems the Chrome finish appeared in 79 but I know that's not the case or maybe I'm wrong. The seller has these listed as late 60's which I don't believe is correct. I'm thinking 75 to 78 or thereabouts. I've included a few pics just to give an idea.

As always any input is greatly appreciated!!

Thx

Wow nice looking set,it's from the mid 70s COW the set would have been 2 24"s the mounted tom's would have been 13,14 or 14,15 mounted on a stand floor tom are 16,20 the snare drum could have been a 5.5x14 or 6.5x14 also..Set looks to be in very good condition,i would offer no more then 1,000.00 for the drums and what ever stand and cymbals come with it...Mikey

Same era (maybe) non-original Pearl Snare drum with the set. Ask if there are cymbals. Otherwise $1000 is a reasonable offer for a local deal, if the wrap is in good shape. Wrap can pick up scratches easily so un-scratched chrome wrap is a good thing. The drums appear to be 3 ply with re-rings which is a good thing. The interiors are clear maple so they are no earlier than late 60s. Chrome wrap probably didn't come in til around early 70s so that's probably the date area of them. But although Lucky's $500 sounds like a great deal for you, you might consider whether others are also making offers. Try to get him to let you know what he's trying to get for them.

Things that are cool about them:

double bass 24" Virgin bass drums

plenty of toms any Rush fan would be proud of

20" floor tom is nice to have but not uncommon for Slingerland to mix the 16/20 combo

I'm salivating.. You may be correct about the time frame

I'd ask for more pictures and some serial numbers, and what interiors the drums have. I think $500 would possibly insult him, but maybe not, you want to start a discussion that keeps the seller thinking you're serious, so I'd definitely contact him and talk to him as much as possible to try to get any idea from him and to help your case that you may be the right buyer.

If you're a tire kicker, both you and he ought to figure that out fairly quickly, assuming he has other interested parties.

For some reason, those COW Slingers sound excellent!

I have had some to verify, and have heard the same from other people.......

Must be that the wrap adds to the sound............
