What to do....Gretsch? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Recently I picked up this mixed lot of Gretsch round and stop sign badge drums. Unfortunately there have been some alterations (Slingerland mount to the bass and different leg mounts to the floor tom). The sizes are 20x14 round badge, 12x8 stop sign, 13x9 stop sign, and 14x14 round badge. The two center lugged toms were part of one kit that the ownwer had since the 60's. I guess they could be from the period where the badges transitioned. Any suggestions or recommendations on directions to take the kit? It all sounds great, but it would be nice to have one complete kit rather than two put together. At least they are the same color!

All that being said, anyone got a center lugged bass in blue?

If that 14"x14" round badge floor tom had not been altered, you could make enough money from selling it (and the rest of the kit) to buy a complete round badge kit! It's such a shame that the bass and floor tom, the most valuable of the lot, have been altered in that way.

Too many great drums to list here!

Since they have been altered I would just make a 12, 14, 20 and re wrap them.

Fill the holes, re paint the insides with silver sealer and get the extra parts you need with help from the parts you don't need!

+1 on Lucky's bit of suggested direction. Just take a peek into John's (PurdieShuffleOffToBuffalo) work and get all misty eyed at what could be from these beautiful shells.

Trust me those holes kill me, but they still sound great. I need to get the correct leg mounts to see if they will cover the holes.

I would love to complete the Playboy set, but I think finding that center lugged bass will be pretty hard, if not expensive to do.
