What was Bun E. playing on last night? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Last night, I was watching a PBS broadcast of a recent, pre-recorded Cheap Trick concert. Only caught the last 20 minutes (which were great!), so I never got a good shot of Bun E's drums. Most of the tight shots of Bun E were from the rear of the set, so great view of his sticking, but poor view of the shells. I'm assuming it had to be one of his many vintage kits. Anyone see this broadcast? Below is about the best screen shot I could find.

BunE is a member of VDF. Hopefully he'll tell us himself!

Looks like Ludwig lugs on the rack tom, lighting is weird so it's hard to tell the finish, but I'll guess red sparkle. He might have been using his 6.5x14 bronze snare. The bass drum also looks smaller than what BunE usually plays. 22"?

I'm curious to find out what he actually used.

I think you're right, that does look like Rick's on bass! As he's constantly changing axes every song, I can never figure out what the guitarists are doing! In announcing the band members, Rick made mention of a "12-string bass"; don't know if that was a joke or not. I guess if a 5-neck guitar is possible, anything is.

BunE owns a ton of kits... I wouldn't put it past him to pull something from stock for a gig. But you're absolutely right, I don't recall ever seeing him playing anything else on stage on videos or TV. I mentioned the brass snare because that's what he used on a live outing with 'Tinted Windows'. The drum sounded like Thor's Hammer in that performance, grabbed me by the ears immediately. Powerful pop on that thing.

BunE... where are you at? What drums did you play on the gig in question, cie vous plais?

I didn't happen, too see what you are referring to. But that is amazing Bun would be playing with Rick since Cheap Trick is in a bad legal action with Bun right now, ?

... since you brought it up.

Regardless of any legal entanglements between band members, the band itself has contractual obligations (to record, to their record company, to tour, etc.) that they must fulfill as a group.

Contractual obligations, as a band, have nothing to do with 'who is suing who' inside the group. The group obviously signed contracts (together,) to do this gig and maybe more, who knows. That this gig was a 'contractual obligation' becomes obvious -because of- the very factors you cited.

I do!

I was signed by Elan Assocites Producers in NYC when I was 17. I've been signing contracts since I was a kid, for years. I worked in a wedding band during the 70's and I had to sign a contract for each and every gig. There was a lot of them too, it was a busy band. Why even here, where I am now in Ca-ca Hole Pennsylvania, I subbed with a working Blues band for 6 mos. and I had to sign a contract for each and every gig I did with them.

I know from contracts... been ripped off once real bad because I didn't read the fine print and couldn't afford a lawyer. Oh yes, I know contracts.
