What will happen to the price of Champagne Sparkle kits? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

As some of you may know...original Champagne Sparkle wrap is no longer available-apparently it`s too expensive to stock.Bermuda Sand is abit lighter in color and i`m not sure if it`s available any more either? What will happen to the price of our original Champagne Sparkle sets ? Will there price go up or down? Please let me know your thoughts on this one guys...

I hope it doesn't drive prices up too much. I'm still looking for a late 60s Slingerland 16" floor Tom to finish out a kit I have.

I don't think it will affect it much. I think it has more to do with the rarity and desirability of the color itself. As I understand champagne sparkle is pretty rare and I think that drives its price. Even with new wrap available it still doesn't affect the number of original kits out there.

It seems the market views a re wrap as an entirely different class of kit than an original no matter what the color. And I for one agree.

in my opinion they may not be as valuable as some of the more rare finishes (emerald green and ruby red pearl ect )but will always be above all the rest in the sparkle finishes therefore they will be slightly higher in value.

I don't think it will make any difference. The repro wrap from the last 10-15 years, i.e. Champagne Sparkle, Bermuda Sand, etc, were never a great match anyway. The original material was prone to changing color over time due to yellowing or dulling of the top layer, or the silver and copper flakes in the material getting tarnished itself. This makes matching even original drums difficult, rewrapped drums really jump out from any originals. imho.

With the exception of Green, Galaxy and Burgundy, perhaps?

According to their website Gretsch still has two versions (regular and vintage) of Champagne Sparkle available on new USA Customs. Just because Precision, etc. may chose not to stock it doesn't mean Delmar isn't making it. Also the copper sparkle on Gretsch's Catalina jazz sets is similar to Champagne.

Bermuda sand wasn't a particularly good match to original Champagne but was all that was readily available for many years.

It's possible that these two wraps that Gretsch is using are exclusive to them which would mean that the wrap sellers couldn't get it to sell.

For the price to shoot up on vintage drums requires that demand exceed supply. I'm not sure demand for this color is climbing that steeply, regardless of whether or not new (or rewrapped) drums in that color are available.

Just my 2 cents.

I dont think its going to affect the prices of vintage Champagne sets at all.

There are a ton of vintage champagne sets available for sale any time you look, and really, they just change owners every few years. They will always have a nice value, but I dont see them jumping up in price for any reason.

I personally, never liked champagne sparkle because of how it fades. It really looks crummy (to me) when it fades to that "sand" look.

In my many years of collecting I have found lots of champagne sets/singles. I would not personally consider the finish to be all that rare myself. It's a desireable attractive finish that looks great but I think a lot of it was produced. While the original is definetly different, I have a 2012 Ludwig set in champagne sparkle and I love it. I think the color is very nice.
