With a $9,400.00 dollar price tag for a Bubinga kit, they aren't going to sell a whole lot of them. No matter how magical the sound. About the only 'high place' this kit is going to take you to is the poor house.Excellent sounding drums...John

I'll never own a bubinga kit on principle alone. I can't stand saying the word. Typing it was even difficult.

Here's the video. This Tama kit sounds like any other high end modern kit. I don't get it, didn't he just help dw create some new affordable jazz kit? It's all about the $.http://youtu.be/LaTEkbawo_o

To me those drums sound a bit empty. The rack toms particularly seem quite ping-pong to me. Not much tone. In fact the sound reminds me of a Roland v drum pre-set.

It could be mic placement of course, but I'm not feeling it.

This video on a DW kit is more for me. To me the drum sound is very gretschy. That's why I figured if he moved he would go that way. I actually think this is a very good vintage-esque sound for a modern kit.

A couple of years ago I sat about two tables away from those DW's and Pete Erskine at Vitello's in LA... The kit sounded totally brilliant...

I don't like that Tama kit in the video either... FL tom sounds horrible..

Cheers

Anybody know why Erskine left Yamaha some years ago ? They've had a very loyal endorser lineup , which might change now that they make all but one of their sets in China .

He fell in love with their flat base, vintage style cymbal stands...

I've always enjoyed Peter's playing over the years. I can't say he is a personal influence much, but I did watch a great video recently of him giving instructions on brush playing.

Anyhow, I think that Peter Erskine should do what Peter Erskine wants to do... He's paid his dues; been around the music bizz professionally for longer than I've been alive; he's a highly respected musician and has been blessed enough to make a living at playing drums. So... if ole' Pete wants to switch to Tama, for whatever reason (even for $$$ ).. Doesn't bother me. Not one bit. :2Cents:

IMHO pre-China made ( Haven't heard any of the MIC sets yet ) Yamahas , soundwise , blow away anything Tama has ever produced . Oak , Beech , Maple and Birch Customs ...Recording Customs ...YD series ...No comparison .
