What's the story with Vox drums? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Loading...

I haven't seen much on these but from what I can tell they just look like Vox bought out Trixon or vice versa. I don't know much about Trixon either to be honest but I'm just curious if anybody knows anything about these Vox drums. I've seen them in some old videos and even seen one in a newer Osaka Monaurail video. Are they nice drums? Where were they made? How rare are they? Etc... Thanks.

Vox drums are Trixon drums.Trixon drums used the Vox name in the U.S. they only sold them under the Vox name for a few years 1967-69...Buddy Rich had a deal in 1967 with Trixon toplay Vox drums...Yes Vox drums are rare to come by i have a 4 pice set in gold sparkle its the only one i have seen...Mikey

Around 1967 the distributor of VOX in the U.S. ( Thomas Organ Co.) became obliquely involved with Trixon because they also distributed Pianos made by Lindner-Rippen, who had a cooperative arrangement with Trixon , regarding the purchasing of materials. Thomas ,wanted to get the U.S. distribution for Trixon but it was already in the bag with another company , so a switch to the VOX name and a different dealer network broadened Trixon's potential sales network------same drums under 2 different names and possibly twice as many dealers. Premier did the same thing ,when they turned Beverley over to Boosey&Hawkes----basically increasing the # of dealers that Premier made products could be sold through because previously, Beverley and Olympic, both made by Premier, which were pretty much indistinguishable except via cosmetics, were competing with each other. Putting Beverley out into B&H dealerships broadened the potential consumer base.

I acquired about 30 of these keys in packages from a music store closeout in LA. They came in plastic bags labeled Trixon, & are slotted for both Trixon & Vox tension rods.
