What's Your Toughest Find? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I'm sure we've all experienced our fair share of frustrations and/or challenges in locating that final "piece of the puzzle" needed to complete that vintage project of ours.

Just wondering what's proven to be your toughest find in doing so through the years? Was it an original t-rod or spur you thought you'd never locate? Perhaps a particular lug configuration? Or, maybe something as simple as an L-arm manufactured by the same company as your kit.

Let's see how many same or similar "horror stories" we may have shared without even being aware of them.DOH

It took me ten forevers and several missfires to track down TWO pair of those thin Slingerland Buddy Rich bass spurs. Thank goodness I finally did. My cat was getting pretty ticked at being stapled to that freekin bass every time I wanted to play.

A snare butt for that 1920's Ludwig & Ludwig marching snare I restored. Never found one. I ended up making my own from a scrap piece of leather. Also, never found an actual Ludwig & Ludwig strainer for it, i ended up substituting a similar one from a Gretsch marching snare.

And finally, the Renown strainer for my Gretsch Dixieland snare drum. Took almost a year to find one in complete working condition!

mine was finding the perfect kit (for me)

i bought, sold, and traded for over a year to find "the one"

i know a year might not seem that long to some of you..but to me it felt like a life time. it was like looking for buried treasure without a map.

i almost gave up hope on many occasions..and i got so burnt out on the whole buy/sell/trade game.

in the end..i ended up finding my set locally (who would of thought?)

guy was great..drums are great.

wouldn't trade em for the world!

Like Mcjnic.... the 5/16ths diameter Slingy bass legs...... lots of folks think they have them, but most are the 3/8ths variety.

I still need a couple of pairs... hint !!
