I'm going to be buying a Rogers Dynasonic custom. I'll be paying a $100.00 for it.It's a cob with floating snare setup was that a standard for those snares? it will have to be reheaded. any recomendations. I was thinking a Remo Vintage Emporior top and bottom and real tight!! Is this drum worth more than a $100.00 or is that about right?? how long ago did rogers stop making drums. are they the upper level of drums when they where being made??

Rogers was THE Best drummaker. Production ended in 1984. Your Rogers Dynasonic cost 150.00 in 1964. Aprox. 700.00 in todays money. It was one of the most expensive production snare drums at that time. Yes, it was high end.
Coated Diplomat on top, two turns above finger tight, Ambassador Snare side, two and a half turns above finger tight, original spec.
Finger tight on the snare wired on the frame tension screw. Adjust the throw so the frame just kisses the resonant head.
Any more tuning than that is a waste of a good drum. And, if you tighten that throw off up tight, you will damage the drumshell.
Ah Ploughman... you know we are Rogers brethren... and that said: I recommend pompa mfw have a look/read of my Dynasonic set-up instructions. These will get your drum in the RIGHT AREA as there is a a little more to it than Ploughman wrote here.. ( although his suggestions are indeed correct, but in this case, just a thumbnail sketch ) .. well thank you guys I've printed that off so I can use it when I've gotten the drum here. It's one of those money things you know, the first of the month syndrome lol. I noticed it was mentioned about Aquarian Satin Finish Coated heads. Is that what they are called "Satin Finish Coated"? I use Aquarian Studio X, and High fruqency heads on my toms (12"x8" pearl fiberglass shell,13x11pearl wood shell).The X's on top the high frq. as a resonet head, and I play them fairly loose,pretty good sounding.
What head is used for the snare head it didn't say in the article?
it's nice to know that Rogers is a good brand of drums. When this drum is in my hot little hands I'll send some photo's of it in the condition it's in when I get it! It does show some wear. but for a 40 to 30 year old drum it's a lot cleaner than my Slingerland Radio King when I got it and that's twice as old as the rogers!!just spoted where it was said to use a ambassador snare side, how about aquarian what's the name for a snare side head? ok thanks guys Ill watch for the info about the snare side head in Aquarian.

I usually buy my heads from WWBW ( Woodwind Brasswind ) there a musical instrument distributor. If it has to do with music they sell it at wholesale instead of retail. They have alot of cool stuff. I just want my information correct, it makes it easier to find things when looking thru 20 pages of heads. shop by brand is the way to go. I've bought a lot of things for my kit from them, It's ALLWAYS fast when shipped!! The boxes are never beat up or torn and the contents are ALLWAYS well packed. never have recieved anything damaged. thanx's again

Do you mean the Satin Finish Texture Coated? It seems to be their single-ply coated head, along the lines of a coated Remo Ambassador or Evans G1.

I have 22 Rogers snare drums. Powertones, Dynasonics, Supertens. Brass, COB, COS, and wood.
Genera G1 coated, Ambassador Coated, Aquarian Texture coated.... are all similar weight, thickness, and quality heads.
For the dynasonics,I use those plus Evans J1 etched. Snare side heads will be anything from an Ambassador snare side, Hazy 300 snare side, aquarian snare side....... all within that same basic thickness.
Some people prefer one brand over others. All of them are similar quality. There are many more options available for heads today than there was in 1965 or even 1984.
Rogers original spec on the Dynasonic was a Diplomat coated, with Ambassador snare side, tuning as I described above. Adjust to your preference. Use the head of your preference. Tune to your preference.
Just dont over tension the drum snare system, things will be fine.
you guys rock thanxs for all the good info!!!!Mind Blowi I've only been playing seriously for just over a year now and only been on this site about the same time.I've learn allmost as much from this site as i've learned from my mentor. a drummer that just left a band of three years because he didn't have enough time to be serious towards the band. So he left but still a very knowageble drummer. ( he prefers to call himself a percussionist ) I have found a friend that will be willing to teach me as well as critize me when I'm wrong!!:(
