In 1967, I was 15, I would have been shocked out of my whits if my Dad had showed up with a set like that. I'm guessing the cost would have been somewhere very close to $1000 based on a set I purchased in NJ a couple of years ago from the original owner whose father had paid about $550 for a Buddy Rich Celebrity (4-piece) in blue onyx with a COB dynasonic, both base mounted cymbal 'L' arms, pedal, hat and one extra swan stand along with hard cases. That was severely discounted at the Sam Ash store on Long Island, NY (40% discount). I still have the original sales receipt, but don't have the 3 blue onyx drums any longer. They belong now to a guy in CA.Conversely in 1967, I got an MIJ set that was $250 with cymbals after working to build a summer camp in NH the entire break from school that year. It absorbed all my earnings. The nifty thing about your base drums is that either can be played left-handed, which would be a great training exercise for opposite handed facility!
Dan,I was really fortunate to have had very supportive parents.I think even then they knew this was to be my life long livelyhood.I worked in the summer`s for my father and saved all my money and the deal was if i could pay for half the drumset price they would match me dollar for dollar.Seemed to take me forever to pay them but eventually i did.You were pretty close to the cost of this set-it was $1,271.25 Canadian minus $346.25 allowed for my Bollero drumset trade-in with five Kamala cymbals lowering the cost to $971.25.This didn`t incl. the hi-hat cymbals and stand that were were ordered and came in shortly thereafter. So when this was factored in it brought the cost up to around $1,500.00 and hard shelled cases were to come yet.Guess i could have bought a car but thought i`d get much better mileage with these and i`d get the girls eventually, lol.
You mentioned about the separate bass drum tom mounts being user friendly for a lefty and i am a lefty so this may have figured in if i did order them this way? Also funny you mentioned the word "nifty" as that was my father`s nick name. Thanks Dan.

Wow Wayne ! In 1967 that had to be a monster kit. Two mounted toms and two floor toms. Unheard of. It is amazing you had the where with all to hang on to them all these years, instead of trading or selling for something which others may have thought cooler or more with the times as far as wrap color, etc. Absolutely beautiful set. Were those two 16"x16" floors. I see on your signature the two 13"s and 20" kick drum. Do you still have both floor toms?
Hi Vibes-thanks very much for the kind words and yes the floor toms are both "16x16" and i still have them both.

The bill of sale is so cool!. I checked my computer for the one I had on the '67 blue onyx and don't find it. Hard copy is in the US though. I'll have to load it sometime when I'm home this summer. Would be a good section to add to the site. I'll bet there are a lot of guys with a similar document to track the history of cost help with tracking when serial numbers were used in cases where the drums and receipt remain together.
One thing that is really cool is the hat and top coat your dad is wearing, along with the black rimmed glasses. Same outfit my dad would have been wearing in the era. They were so much more formal than we are. Imagine going to a music shop with a hat and top coat on!
Good thing he made you work for those babies. That is probably part of the reason you still have them today.
That is awesome.
Great pic Wayne, I remember Bellone's when it was on Wellington but I didn't know they were on Dundas at one time. I ran into John Sr. at a wake about 2 years ago, he was doing well. I don't go to Bellone's much anymore. The drum department has really gone south since he retired.

Very cool.
I also have the original receipt from my '73 Rogers kit.
It is a Londoner5 kit with an added 16x18FT.
With a pair of New Beat HH's, a 20" ride and an 18" crash it came to $1069.
They gave me $350 for a 4pc Gretsch red sparkle kit I had in trade. As I recall, that's the same amount I paid for it a few years before.
The best part was they let us take them home with only a $100 deposit +the trade.
There is a hand written note "$100 monthly payments" on the bill, which is what we did.
Each of those installments are noted on the back of the receipt.
No credit app, no finance charge, just a handshake and a promise.
I have the original receipt/ or a copy of it from my 1977 Big R set. Price was around 1450.00, Big Londoner V, 24-13-14-18 with an added 15 Concert Tom, Hardware, Paiste 2002 14" heavy hats, 18 Crash, 20 Ride, H&B Econoline fiber cases for all the drums, and a trap case. I paid 950.00 for all of that exactly two years after the original purchase. Several years ago, I sold the 14 and 15, and purchased a 16 floor tom with close numbers. I still have the set.
