Where do you position your snare strainers? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I'm just looking for some opinions on where everyone positions their strainers on their snare drums. I've been positioning the snare butt-end at 12 o'clock and the strainer at 6 o'clock on my snare drums.

I feel the reason for this configuration is to get more sensitivity from the snares while playing from the edge at 12 o'clock down to the center of the head. I could be just making this up too. ;)

Interesting question...I'm anxious to hear the responses. I have always put the butt at 3 o'clock with the throw-off at 9. That's was just for easy access to the throw-off with my left hand.

I'm Right handed so, Strainer @ 8 o'clock so I can play one handed while using my left to engage the snares. Only need it on one song we do, which starts out with snares off for 4 measures then snare on for the rest of the song.

My throw arm is at 2:00, no particular reason, just fit on the stand and sounded the best in that way.

This is a good subject, i dont know much about it. Only time i use the throw off is when im done playing, i flip the arm to release the tenion while it is just sitting.

From vintagemore2000

strainer at the 5 o'clock position and the butt end at 11 o'clock position.

That is what I aim for as well.. I like to keep the butt plate away from my inner knee bone..

Cheers
