Where Have All the Camcos Gone Last viewed: 20 minutes ago

I'm wondering why you don't see as many Camco kits floating around compared to the other big American companies from the same time period of 1960-1975. I have two theories....

1 Camco didn't sell as well so not as many were produced.

2 Collectors horde them and don't sell or trade.

Bingo! But why did they not make as many? Because they weren't as popular? And if they weren't as popular back then, why are they so popular now? I honestly think that's the main reason Camco drums bring such big money now, because they are less common and not because they are superior drums.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

They are popular because they sound fantastic and are very hard to find. Thus we complete the circle back to; where have all the Camcos gone?

Ok, so how are they superior? I need specifics, what makes them superior than say, Rogers, which I've always heard were the superior drums back in the 60's.

Quality, sound, edges

I have to say when I was thinking of the question I wasn't thinking that one type of set is superior than another but one that is not shabby.

I think there are lots of sets (Ludwig, Rogers,Gretsch, ...) from there eras that can be considered superior but Camco seems to have produced the least amount.

I saw that article and it's very intersting, but that doesn't explain why Camco didn't sell as well as the other companies. I've heard similar stories about Gretsch being used by studio musicians.
