Which Heads??? Last viewed: 48 minutes ago

Loading...

My Pearl set is dues for new heads..........these are over 25 years old.

I haven't kept up on any new tech ( if there is any) on heads. Currently I am using pinstripes on top and bottom.

Back in the '70's I saw a local band play and the drummer had his set equipped with Hydraulic heads ( brain****.......can't remember the the maker). Are these still available..........and are they still in vogue?

Any suggestions???

Depends on the sound you are looking it get from your drums. Pinstripes on top and bottom would sound heavy to me, usually a thinner resonant (bottom) head is used to get more ring. Brighter sounds from thinner heads. There are so many combinations!

Basic combination for me is Remo Emperor on top, Amabassadors on bottom all coated, secondary is pinstripes on top, clear Ambassadors on bottom.

Good luck!

Theres nothing wrong with pinstripes for a controlled thud, but if you swap the bottom heads for Ambassadors you'll open your drums up a lot. I like coated pinstripes and coated Amby's bottom when I'm going that way.

Currently I tend to use Emperor top and Amby bottom all coated. I use coated Amby on most of my Snares, and CS dot on the snares I use for Rock.
