Who gigs with vintage hardware? Last viewed: 27 minutes ago

I use a couple of different sets when gigging out. I mostly play jazz these days and will play my Camco's with a Gretsch floor tom of the same year. All the drums are Jasper Shells. Have different drums for different configurations.

I use my Ludwig 1400 flat base stands and Ludwig flat base hi-hat stand and have never knocked them over. I use vintage Paiste 16" 18" and 22" cymbals. For my 71 Supraphonic I use a Atlas snare stand. Also I play with controlled power so I crash my cymbals pretty good at times. Ringo used to whip his cymbals good and used those flat based cymbal stands. All the hardware fits easily in to my little vintage rolling small size fibre case. I also use the stands with my Gretsch Jazz Catalina set and it just looks good to me. Very Vintage.

I use my Slingerland vintage kit for anything I do 'cause it's all I got. My toms are mounted on the BD with my ride mounted up between them. Have two splash's, one on either side. My hi-hats sit to my left & my floor tom to my right. I hadn't played in more than a few years, and the last time I did down in Texas it was more rock stuff. When I put the kit back together last year I discovered some damage to the to mountings - had to do some rebuilding. Since I play mostly country/soft rock stuff I don't hit too hard & now am more aware of the limits of vintage gear.

If I'm using Dw's I use DW 9000 series Hardware, it's to blinking heavy, but I do like it for my 24" ride cymbal no stupid counterweight needed, when I Use Ludwig, I use either wfl 1400 cymbals stands or Ludwig Atlas swivel feet hardware, but I always use a Dw 5000 two legged Hi Hat stand and a DW 5000 ad2 Accelerator bass drum pedal on new or vintage kits. if I play slingerland I use slingerland hardware, see a recurring theme here??

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

My old Radio King kit has the clamp-on toms and clamp-on cymbal holders. These work great for gigs and I've never had problems with them. I am looking for an old pedal but currently use an Iron Cobra. I use the cheap Ludwig flat stands when I drag out the 60s Ludwigs. Playing the old hardware is half the fun of gigging with vintage kits.

I use 3 new Ludwig flat based cymbal stands, an 1183 Ludwig HH, an old WFL flat based snare stand and a newer Taye XP1 BD pedal. I have several of the old Ludwig snare and HH stands, and they are all I like to use. Been gigging this stuff hard for a couple of decades. No problems. Love the light weight.

I e-bayed a couple of Slingerland boom stands to go with my black chrome kit. I used them on one gig. They didn't fail, but they were so wobbly, I was a nervous wreck by the end of the gig. I also had to preventively tighten the tilters a few times during each set.

It wasn't a problem at the time, but upon further review, the stands on my original Slingerland kit didn't exactly inspire confidence. I had 15" and 16" concert toms mounted on one that had to clear a 24" bass drum, so that stand was always at full extension. Additionally, I had to replace the small rubber feet on a regular basis.

I am using the Slingerland HH stand, which is a joy to play. The rest of my cymbals are mounted on single-braced Yamaha booms, which are rock-solid and still relatively light. I set my cymbals fairly high, and newer stands offer a lot more leeway for that.

I don't hit quite as hard as I used to. I guess again, I had too many close calls with older stands. I just don't trust them.

Maybe I will try out the modern flat base stands.

Keep on Pl

I use a mix of vintage and new hardware with my RBs. The ride is bass-mounted, and I use an old Speed King and a vintage W&A snare stand -- they work fine and look great, and that snare stand weighs faaaar less than a modern stand.

At home, I use the original rail mount for the tom and a new Ludwig flat-based stand for the crash. But I find that the rail mount can be a little unstable when playing out. So when I'm gigging, I hang the tom from a Pearl ISS mount on a newer cymbal stand. I always use a 90s Tama hat stand -- I like the smooth action. But I'd love to have a good vintage hat stand for gigs. Can anyone recommend a vintage hat stand that would have the feel and sensitivity of a new one?

Been gigging Trilok a little while now. Damn sturdy... And damn heavy!

To make matters worse, I put it all (conveniently) in a hardcase. Each gig, I pray that there are no stairs...

Starting to think of searching for some lighter hardware :p
