Who's using a '20s - '30s DeLuxe or BB? Last viewed: 44 minutes ago

Great feedback friends. I want to play mine and was wondering if I'd be crazy to do so.

My 8-lug Scroll DeLuxe looks to have vintage James Snappi snares. I pretty sure I should put those away for safe keeping. I also took some good advice and bought replacement hooks so as not to damage the originals. Head choice and wires are where I'm at.

I don't think I'll try to clean this any more than the seller already did. I've got no experience with an old black laquered brass shell.

Thanks again.

I'm using a 1920s Super Ludwig (2 piece brass shell, 10 lugs, single flanged hoops) for recording. It's a killer!

When I bought it, the super Ludwig snare mechanism was missing, so I ordered a customised 'professional' strainer at AK's which covers the original holes of the super ludwig mechanism. So now it's basically a Ludwig professional ;)

I'm using vintage ambassador coated and ambassador hazy snare side heads and 24 strand Puresound snares

I use my Standards, mainly in the studio. I have an 8 lug 5", 6 lug 6.5X15", and a 6 lug 6.5X14". I prefer the 6 luggers. I also have a Silver Anniversary 6.5"X14. All fantastic sounding and I get use out of every drum.

I believe I interpreted the phrase "or equivalent" a little too broadly. :)

Mine is just a student model I think; don't really know anything about it. I assume it's from the 30s as it came with a bass drum hand-dated from that decade, but that means nothing really. I sure do love it though...

I've got two I use, both early 1900's 2-piece brass shells, 6 lugs. Pretty sure I have Ambys on both. One has replacement steel clips, the other is modded with triple flanged nob's. I love these drums, but don't crank the one with clips--tend to use it for new Orleans 2nd-line stuff. You should definitely gig yours........marko

That's plenty 'equivalent' Mitch. Idea being any old brass drum being used in a modern setting and how you have it outfitted.

A Standard is definitely a more practical choice for live performance in a club or uncontrolled venue. I will be recording in a few weeks and I'm convinced I should get serious about outfitting my DeLuxe to take with me.

Yes I never really worried about taking it out....until I read here about the clips busting :) Well no busted clips yet - I do have "replacements" from a Slingerland tom, if it ever happens. I guess I should put a couple in the old gig bag....

I think your DeLuxe will record amazingly.

Thanks for the good words Olddrumgeek and GGdrum...:)
