The hose clamps are one of my pet hates... but it was early days for memory locks.. What they did chrome though, was fairly decent quality (hoops and shells) stand up well..
Still love them whatever..
Cheers

I just got in a Slingerland flush base hardware package I ordered off eBay for $100, to match my 65 GK Deluxe - Tempo King, snare stand, 804 hi hat stand. Couldn't be happier. Hi hat stand might need a little attention, but I'm really thrilled with how shiny and well maintained this stuff is. At first I was hesitant to get the 60s period hardware cause of the flimsiness factor, but as I was unpacking it from the box I was delighted to find how well built and sturdy everything was. Its hard to explain, the metal/chrome just looks higher quality than any modern hardware I've seen. Also pretty stoked on the Tempo King, seems to be pretty responsive and sturdy - almost everyone steered me towards the Speed King, but I have to say I've tried a few Speed Kings at the drum shop I work at and they just didn't really do it for me. They could all probably use a good spring reworking though. Also, another Hardware reference - The other day this guy brought all his deceased Dad's old 70s/80s Ludwig hardware into the drum shop looking to get rid of it cheap. We bought him out pretty much, and got a ton (literally) of the heaviest, bulkiest, ugliest, most cumbersome Atlas Hercules hardware I've ever had this misfortune of having to carry. This was right around the time I was debating whether to get the 60s type hardware, or get more sturdy 70s double braced military grade hardware. And man looking at that stuff really appalled me for some reason. I went home that night and ordered the old Slingerland stuff I have now. Those flush bass stands are just so aesthetically appealing to me.

I've been using that type of hardware plus some Rogers single braced stands and generic W&A stands from the 50's and 60's ever since they were new. If a small widget strips or craps out, a piece from another stand (almost any brand) from that era will fix the problem. The local hardware store usually has common screws, nuts, bolts, etc to fix most of the problems. Fifty and sixty years later, I have no idea if the riser tubes and threaded rods on many of those stands are with the stands that they originally came with. No worries----they all work well as they are.
I've always had good luck with vintage 60's Slingerland hardware. As to the Tempo King, you can't do better than this one... See the attached picture. I used a bearing/cam and screw from a Yellow Jacket pedal. My Tempo King is killer!
