Re-rings are too wide/fat... looks like a clone, albeit a BEAUTY though!

Agree.

Grommet has been reworked. Sanding of the interior appears reworked. Late Dayton hardware, bottom hoop is later fullerton, also the rail. Possibly a star washer on one of the lugs. Edges on the inside of the rerings look to be overly rounded.

Clone.

Thanks Tommy P and Ploughman.

You may or may not remember, that last year, a complete Rogers Cleveland kti with a beautiful WMP Dynasonic came into my possession. It had been stored in an attic for years and I gave it a detailing job, kept and played it for six months, then sold the Dynasonic, keeping the original kit. It was not easy to sell but needed the money from it!

I missed the drum and came across (as you with your knowledge have easily identified) a nice clone for less than 1/4 the price of the original. The maker did a great job on the shell, sounds great and matches the kit well.

No, definitely not the real thing but a reasonable facsimile. I have to admit feelling a little guilty aquiring such a drum...:( however I would never try to pass it off as the real thing.

Nuff said, now I'm ready to hear your opinions on clones and fakes.

I have no problem with building a look alike to suits your needs BUT when you put Rogers badge on it I think it becomes dishonest at that point you may not try and sell it as a fake but maybe down the line someone else would... just my 2 cents

brand them on the interior with a makers mark and date. Make it irreversible.

From The Ploughman

brand them on the interior with a makers mark and date. Make it irreversible.

Kelly - along these same lines... if you use a soldering iron, you can print/burn your name and/or the words: 'Dynasonic Clone' along with a date on the inside of the shell. Not even sanding will take it out and if someone tries to remove it for nefarious reasons, it'll be readily apparent that something was removed - raising a visual red flag to a potential buyer. Especially for someone who cannot read the other 'tells.'

Too many great drums to list here!

Great ideas. I will burn a suitable inscription in the shell to indicate the origins of this snare so no one in the future suffers a loss from it.

I heard someone had bought one of these clone Dynasonics and had tried to sell it on Ebay for $4000. I think it was discovered to be a fake before someone fell victim.

Recently a well known drum stripper on ebay posted a Dynasonic fake for 3K. It wasnt even a well done fake. Back around 2000 when Dynasonic prices got sky high, there was a couple forgeries that showed up. One was very well done. Theres a difference between a clone Dyna and a forgery. A well done clone will identify itself as such. It becomes a forgery when it is passed off as the real thing.

Hi Ploughman. There is no place for trying to pass something off for the real thing when it is not. Its a question of integrity. Since the culprit you mention is "well known". Do you know who it was?
