I am not a stranger to vintage drums. i have a 1960's Ludwig 3 piece, 1970's Ludwig 5 piece with T mount for toms and a 1930's Ludwig street drum. My question lies with an old Pearl. I am trying to ID the approximate value/ year of the pictured set below. I got the set on a trade for a guitar I had no use for. These NO harware for the snare except hoops, the bass is missing 3 lugs (and where can i get the same style lugs) and small tom/ floor tom are in good condition.
Worth/ fixing up Vintage Pearl Last viewed: 1 minute ago
What are the sizes?
Welcome! If you could post some cleaner pix of the lugs, I may be able to point you in the right direction. As for value, they have more value in mojo than in cash. They are worth fixing and playing, but top dollar on these old MIJ kits is usually in the 100-300 range, and the upper end requires hardware and complete, unaltered kits. Can you tell me, do the shells have re-rings in them?

13 x 9 small tom
16x15 floor
14x5.5 snare
20x14 bass
To my knowledge this is the original covering. I have altered a 70's Slingerland as the pearl white was cracking and yellowing (changed it to a stained wood veneer)
Nice set! That's definitely the original wrap, sky blue pearl, and it looks great. 13/16/20 are great sizes for any kind of rock. You're lucky to have the original matching snare. So many old MIJ kits are missing their snares.
Do all the drums have the chrome Pearl badge? If this set is still in pretty good shape, it would probably be one of the more valuable Japanese sets. It's got a very nice, desirable wrap and looks, on the whole, unmolested. If the edges and interiors are in good shape, you really have a cool old set. In short, yes, it's very much worth fixing up. With a bit of work, this set will look awesome and sound great as well.
Its a late 60s pearl set,a nice looking set..As far as missing parts lugs, and any other missing parts..I have them...Mikey
Thats awesome... I had a feeling i won in the trade.
I can definatly do the work. the interiors are in decent shape. I will have to contour the edges on the toms and snare, but not a big deal. Its gonna look great next to the Slingy and 60's silver sparkle 3 pc Ludwig...
