Wrap color on Ludwig Standard Snare Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Loading...

I asked a question two years ago and got too busy to follow up (but I finished the dissertation!).

I have a snare I bought for my daughter over 15 years ago. The low badge number suggests late 1968-early 1969, as does the white Reso-coat interior, no date stamp, and throw-off and butt plate with normal Ludwig script, not the "standard" logo.

What confuses me is the wrap color. It looks like a champagne sparkle, but I think they only made gold mist and silver mist. The gold mist sample from the catalog looks very orange. Were the gold mist drums really as dark as the sample on the website looks? Could this drum have been champagne or pink champagne?

I'm not ready to buff with polish, but is there something gentler that might just remove any smoke or dirt?

Thanks!

looks champagne, pull a lug to be sure..

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

that's a faded(which is normal) silver mist. they fade to a champagne color on the standards for some reason.

+1, pull a lug and you should see silver underneath. They fade so evenly that most people assume they must be champagne...but they're not.
