Wrap Vote Last viewed: 7 minutes ago

I was able to save a bit of $$ and I wanted to treat myself for Christmas.

This year I landed with 3 eras of vintage gretsch . 12" is round badge, 14 is drop g, 16 is ssb #1

Snare is w&a perfection with wood hoops.

I am thinking.. since they sound good... And it is the most fun kit I have ever had... That I can wrap them all in the same color and buy an 18" shell for a bass drum alternative.

Leaving the snare natural...

Has anybody used drummaker for wrap?

Jammin Sam? Precision?

Choices are

1) burgundy sparkle - not merlot. Like the darker old version

2)silver glass glitter

3) root beer glass glitter

4) leave alone - only wrap 14 to make it a jelly bean.

My concern is the 12" is a round badge and has sparkle wrap... If the glass is thicker is it going to be even harder getting heads on it?

Kinda upset i missed a deal on a round badge 14*14 .. but this 14*10 has NEVER sounded bad..And is WAY easier to tune than all the gretsch 14*14 I ever had

Silver glitter on the 14 to match the other two for sweet jellybeanness!

I hadn't thought that those two wraps that you already have would look good together but they do.

I've used Precision they're great. The sparkles are nice and thin.

Choice #4 with burgundy sparkle on the 14" is the least change, since the wood color is already in that neighborhood. Would look excellent too. I wouldn't wrap the 12" if it's original, and if you put glass glitter wrap up to the edge, I'll bet you won't be able to fit a head on it at all. :)

It's tempting to have a little group of interchangeable orphans that match. I'd be happier if I could find them original though. Wrapping is cool, but original is cooler IMHO.

It's an awesome little set. If I wrapped to match it would be to the 16".

How about this ???

I have a 100% original 12" ssb #1 in silver glass glitter all complete. The bass has glass glitter. So it won't change sound. The 14 could use a bit of wrap. In my opinion. It will be beyond perfect for my needs after I get it complete

I will be able to test the new(old) Tom in a few days when I return home. If it SOUnDS better I keep it. If the Green SOUNDS better I keep that one. I am fully aware.. the Green Tom MUST have a sparkle or go bare... A glass will choke her.

I could do all silver glass with all ssb drums. Or keep my 3 era kit ... And do a burgundy sparkle . Maybe I should record both Tom's tuned exactly alike. And keep the winner. I have all the parts EXCEPT the badge to complete the 12" green and yes it is original if I end up selling it.

I like my 60's snare and 60's Tom though... It will take a miracle drum to separate me. If the ssb#1 is good ... Then we may have a winner. The 14" has plenty of room for that wrap. The 16 would just be a swap.

Either color would please me. I just want some opinions. I picture myself behind burgundy. Silver. I don't know. Lol. It's all sound anyways when looking from player view.

So many of the glitters look great together in the "Jelly Bean Context".. with what you have at present I'd think a Red/Maroon or a Blue sparkle would fit well... One of my player kits is a mix of orphan Blue & Green shells.. I love it...

Cheers

That was actually my first and favourite option, an original silver glass glitter 12" tom, but a) thought it might be hard to find [you already have one!] and b) I didn't want to offend lovers of green sparkle.

That plus burgundy sparkle [or glass if you can make it work] on the 14" would be my first choice. Looking forward to seeing what you do...

The vote will come in later this week. I have my kids for now. I am going to tune both 12" identical and keep my winner. They are both winners... But I will keep the one I can easily work with. I may take a comparison for you nerds like me.
