I don't have any club dates in psych red, but would be quite curious to see a pic of your kit. I have never seen ANY club dates in psych red, so they must be quite rare. From which year are the ones you have?

Currently working on a 7 piece virgin double bass 3 ply early 70's Ludwig kit to be wearing....MOD ORANGE.

Good luck finding that.

I did see last month on CL in Oklahoma City a set that was Psych Red where 2 of the 3 drums were Club Dates. I just checked and it's gone now. I can't remember if the 8x12 or the 14x14 was of the Classic variety, but the BD was definately Club Date...

Must be another Ludwig anomaly. You know, about as common as a Bigfoot sighting Eye Ball. Next time have the camera rolling so it's documented. I guess when it comes to Ludwig, there were always exceptions, anything to keep that assembly line going. They didn't anticipate we'd all be scrutinizing these issues 40 years later.

I have a p-red and mod orange club date kit. The snare is a Jazz FAUX that is wrapped with period wrap. The P-red snare pictured is a 90's re-issue that is now owned by Gary Asher as I am building a period wrapped Jazz FAUX for the p-reds..I am also restoring another p-red clubdate kit that will be for sale upon completion. Sorry but I am NOT Parting it out. :( It took ME too long to get it together so. . .I feel your pain. If you save up the coin you could potentially have 2 20's, 2 14's and a 12 double bass kit. :o Or keep the best n sell the rest. . . . Good Luck

Hey Joeyboom --

Those kits look GREAT!

BTW -- is that black sparkle or root bear sparkle in the background?

It was a Galaxie sparkle club date kit. At the time I also had a Burgundy sparkle Club date as well. Both with matching snares. They are gone but not forgotten. The best sounding kit of all ofd them was a champ sparkle that I played out a bit. The placement of the BD legs bugged me and when I played an early 60's Sling kit . . . there was no comparison so I sold those as well.

Thanx for the kind words and the inquiry. . . . . Joe
