WWII Leedy Gold Sparkle Dreadnought Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hello everyone!

This is my beautiful, one of a kind Leedy Dreadnought 14" floor tom from WWII. I'm hoping someday the rest of the set will surface somewhere, and I can reunite the family!

Has anyone here ever seen a Dreadnought drum in a sparkle finish? This is the first (and only) one I've ever seen! It was found with a WFL set many years ago (70s-80s or so) here in Ohio at a garage sale by my friend.

Any leads? I understand that the matching drums might not even exist any more, but I have to at least try! Group Hug

Oh yeah - I think I saw a picture of that set somewhere on the internet! Those are the only other WWII-era sparkle drums I've ever seen...

Did they maybe use metal in the "sparkling pearl" wraps back then? Or is it just glass? Maybe the companies didn't manufacture sparkle wraps around that time due to the metal restrictions. I'm not sure why else they would be so rare!

I`m not sure we should be calling this gold sparkle. Wasn`t it called gold flake and the other gold flash ?

The finish on this drum was called "sparkling gold pearl" as far as I know. Gold sparkle is close enough!

Bump Some pics I took of this drum the night that I brought it home!

Does anyone have any leads or additional info? I figured I'd resurrect this thread on occasion.
