Looking on these on Da Bay, but are they really XP8 shells?

Serial shown is D740679, and that does not jive with Ploughman's serial number timeline....

I'm voting no.....

I will have to review how I worded that. I did not intend confusion. The D74xxxx series were in use in late 78 at the earliest and well into 1979 at the latest. D74xxxx and D95xxxx were in use at the same time in 1979. You will find a mix in XP8 and five ply for those numbers. Some XP8 will be found on lower numbers, and some five ply will be found on higher numbers. It is just how the badges were used.
