So having some extra money in my PayPal account and too much time on eBay is a bad thing:
$109 for what I think will be a great players drum. Seems only issue is some scratches and in need of a good cleaning. I will leave my 67 at the house now.
well done manny! looks nice too..

Mike,
Thanks! I pickup my new Clubbies tomorrow. I have to decide if I am going to keep them or not. Anyway I was thinking of doing something crazy and having this guy chrome plated. I will see how well it cleans up first. I was just about to pull the trigger on another snare when this guy showed up.

Nickle plate it, that would be different!
Nice drum! I love the Acrolites - just great drums....very good bang for your buck. I have a 67 Acrolite and it's among my very favourite drums.

I stripped all the HW and sanded the shell down with 400 grit so far. Thinking of just painting with a silver paint that matches factory color. Anyone ever do that? Seems any automotive silver or aluminum paint will be a 90% match.
You can never have enough Acro's...
I think you might be correct. Anyway I took at look at my 1967 Acro and it is a museum piece compared to this one. The problem with the aluminum is that even with a lot of sanding there are some deep gouges that just won't go away. Therefore I think painting will make it look worlds better.
For the DIY on a budget you could get away very cheaply with some self etching primer and silver paint. I am going to drop it off at my friend's place. He paints cars and previously did a ground up paint job on my car. I believe that better results will be achieved with his tools and methods vs. anything I can muster.
I am happy to report that the hardware has cleaned up significantly better than I had hoped. I keep telling myself I am going to one day have a true players kit and not have something nice. I guess all the years in the Army make it hard for me to gig something that does not look nice :)

I've often wished I would have taken a picture of one that I 'fixed'. It had literally fallen off the roof of a car and got dragged, or rolled maybe. I bought it for two bucks at a flea market years ago. It truly looked like poo. I got to thinking about it one day, and dug it out of my clean dry storage shed. I can't remember what year it was, but I do remember it had a Keystone badge. I stripped off the hardware, and painted it fire engine red with appliance enamel spray paint. Luckily, the 'bowtie' lugs are available from Ludwig so I replaced the couple that were broken, put the badge back on, and the darn thing looked great. It sounded even better. I gigged that snare for years, then sold it with some kit or other.
You just can't kill an Acro. I must have like 20 of 'em or more in various types and ages. I like the black ones, but I can't remember what they're called... kind of black with specks of something. It's newer, maybe 90's. The gray painted ones are neat as well.
