once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Having many snare drums to pick from..I would have to go with a 1920's 6.5x14 Ludwig Black Beauty...Best sounding drum ever...Mikey

I have an Acrolite, I would have to agree with O lugs. If I couldn't get it on the plane, train or automobile that got me there in the first place, I'd take my 8 lug thin shell Star because it would not have the problems many metal snares present. I love the range of an Acro. My Star, on the other hand, is a beast, as far as tone goes, but not really capable of higher tuning ranges, but it sounds really good. And it would not be a huge financial loss if it did succumb to the environment. It has been lacquered on the interior, so I would be to concerned about the weather aspects.

Heard opinions that this may not really exist (really a Supraphonic without chrome and changed out lugs?) but this looks fantastic! Possibly special order for schools? Anywho, loss of chrome, still cool.

Looks like the Luddy huggers need a whole island to themselves. I could have figured that before I even posted the question. Have you noticed that all the posts in favor of Ludwig list a metal drum?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I stand corrected. No offense intended at Ludwig lovers. I am simply not a member of that gang.
