BTW...

I took my Supersonic bass drum out to my last Brasilian gig. Man! That thing was BIGGER sounding than a surdo! Mine has the original Evans blue hydrolic head on the batter side and the Remo black glass head on the front! WIDE OPEN, baby! Woo-Hoo!

When I was 7 years old (1969 or so) I took lessons from Bill Zickos at his shop in Overland Park, KS a suburb of KC, Mo. It was so cool because he built his drums in the shop and many of the famous drummers of the day would come in and Bill would build their sets. If I remember right he sold his patent to Ludwig and made out quite well. After he left KC he purchased an island in the Caribbean or so the story goes. Good memories for me!

I own a vintage Zickos, 70's, 4 piece. The bass is the extra long that needs 4 spurs instead of 2. Found it in a flea market several years ago, bought it for a couple hundred bucks. Appraised for 900. Not sure what it's worth today.

I'm considering selling it for an electronic drum set since I'd be evicted if I even thought of playing my drums. Having second thoughts, though...just don't know if I can part with it. I mean, it's cool, sounds good, and was made in the best decade ever.

Anyway, I'm new here, and thought I'd post about my Zickos. :)

The guy I bought my Luddy Black panthers had a double bass Zicko kit. he go the ziko's, my luddies, aand 3-4 supras and some wfl bass drums and floor tom and several cymbals and pedals for $250. I gave 400 for my BP's he gave me a 16" luddy floor tom that had been panted, anyway. I remember the Zicko's had teardrop lugs like my old sonors. I was sorta glad he beat me to that find from craigslist, because id still be working on all them drums and finding a place to put them all. I hardly ever sell anything!

Hi all. Just though I'd bring this one back, as I've just acquired a set of 1970's Zickos! Lovely drums and very heavy! The sizes are 22x14 bass drum, 16x16 floor tom, 14x10 tom, 13x9 tom and 14x5 snare. The snare and 14 tom need parts however, chiefly the rod receiving dowels for inside the lugs. I can live with standard hoops for now and have the spare claws should I ever decide to get hold of original hoops. I also have the original snare throw, but I'm sure a part is missing. The guy I bought them off also included a replacement throw which may fit though.

At some point when cash allows I'd like to get hold of a matching 12" tom too I think!

Hey Brody,

I have some of the lugs with inserts.......want to sell complete though, with the oversized t-rods also.

I have a pair of BD mounts too,if you are interested, and maybe 12 clips for the metal hoops....and,at least 1/2 or maybe a whole tom arm. It's a male/female ratchet thing.

PM me please............

BTW......I had a chance around 20 years ago to buy a blue Maytag washing machine Zickos BD kit here......4 drums for $300 I recall.........I almost bought them, but didn't............
