Zoomatic losing tension - please help Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Loading...

Help2 I have a 60s COB Slingerland with a Zoomatic that is losing tension as I play it. As I was cleaning it when I first got it, the rubber piece between the tension knob and the strainer body crumbled. The tension screw and strainer are made in such a way that the tension screw can't be taken out to insert another rubber piece easily - but you probably know that if you know how I can resolve the issue. I'm guessing the rubber piece is what was holding the tension. What can I do to make it hold tension?...slip another little piece of rubber between the knob and the strainer body, or will a spring between the strainer and shell do the trick? I'd like to have an idea of what to do before I pull the drum apart.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Lynn

Ha! I've actually seen that months ago and forgot all about it. I should have known to look around a bit first.

I apologize for wasting your time. Many thanks for the info, though!

Hey Lynn!

No apologies necessary. Sometimes the easiest solutions are forgotten and it takes others to jog our memories! Hope you get it fixed.

Well, thanks for jogging my memory Mark! I'm going to try to work on it tonight. I'll post an update to let you know how it goes. I have a rehearsal Wednesday, so it'll be tested soon.

Have a great day!

Lynn, Hi, I can vouch for the Zoomatic spring fix...

I was amused when I saw this "losing tension" thread from you...

I had the same problem with the Acro that I bought from you.. when I played the first set at our rehearsal... I'd just put ambassadors top & bottom & a 20 strand Puresound on it... My problem was a little easier fix than your's though... I had forgot some of my boy scout knots...

(Sounds great by the way)

Cheers

John

John! Good to hear from you! I was wondering if you were still "on walkabout" as Crocodile Dundee would say (one of my favorite movies ever), or if you were back home. I hope your trip was amazing!

I'm glad you like the Acro! Like I said, after I played it at rehearsal a few times I almost didn't want to let it go. But, I had other things I wanted more at the time - like a COB Slingerland. :p I'm glad you got it home and all the kinks, or knots, worked out.

I've got a spring installed and will be testing the Zoomatic out at rehearsal tonight. So, I'll try to post again tomorrow with an update.

Cheers to you mate!

The spring seemed to work quite well. We didn't rehearse quite as long as normal, but certainly longer than it was taking to lose tension before.

Thanks again, Mark!

Thanks for the well wishes, John! I posted in your other thread.
