Ludwig Standard Snares = Jazz Festival? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

I am by no means as knowledgeable as many others about Ludwig on this forum, so I wanted to see if someone could help me out.

I often see Ludwig "Standard" Series snares described as "Jazz Festival" on ebay. From my limited knowledge, I thought that the Jazz Festival snare line pre-dated the Standard Series. Is there such a thing as a Standard snare that is also Jazz Festival snare?

Thanks.

No. I think it's probably a case where an eBay seller don't really know what he has or just isn't decribing it correctly. He's probably using the term "standard" when he's trying to use the term "regular" or something like that.

I've seen a LOT of eBay descriptions that leave a LOT to be desired.

Go to "Visit our Partner Web Sites" and to "Vintage Drum Guide" then down to "Ludwig" and you can find a WEALTH of information.

There's very very little difference between a Jazz Fest and a wood Standard (series) snare. That may be where the seller is coming from.

actually same shell different wrap and hardware maybe same hoops not sure on that

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Ther Standard is an 8-lug drum with the same shell as Ludwig's regular lines from the '60s, so yes, it's essentially a Jazz Fest. But to call it that isn't really accurate. Maybe "a player's Jazz Fest" is more correct?

Just poor communication. I don't think the seller is trying to be intentionally deceptive. He/she is probably just trying to say that the Standards used the same shells they used for the Jazzfests.

No harm, no foul. It be's what it be's, Ludwig stock shells.

Too many great drums to list here!

Yeah..its that same drum basicly.Different lugs, and wrap.By invoking the Jazzfest name though......the heavens will open, and the seas will part, and that drum is a close to the same model, that Ringo played,as you're ever going to get, without spending a boat load of cash.Slight manipulation of the facts,or accurate comparison?

Just close your eyes, and you won't know the difference.Yea,Yea,YeaFalling Do

OK. I finally got a chance to look on eBay today. IF this is the auction and drum in question: eBay item #200719595963, then I think the seller did a good job of pointing out that the shell is the same shell used for the jazzfest, which would be correct.

Now, a question... as I've never had a wooden Ludwig Standard SD like this in my hands.

Did they have the grey granitone painted interiors like the rest of the Ludwig Standard shells, or another interior? Just curious...

All Standards were normally Granitone, but I have seen clear, white, and unfinished maple, though those are quite unusual.

An 8 lug Luddy standard snare goes for what? 100.00 to 150.00?

A Jazz fest goes for 400.00,with the right wrap(BOP) for instance for 700.00

For marketing purposes you can say truthfully that both drums use the same shell, and intimate you can get the same sound ,if that is what you are after, for a lot less money. I am sure they sound similar

I have a problem with sellers purposely blurring the lines by intimating that a drum is a Jazz fest but trying to keep from being fraudulent by using double talk and or misrepping an item.
